Choose Your Weapons: Lethal Magic

Sometimes a model that’s been around a while are worth another look. Lethal Magic were a dart that helped whilst recovering from injury (surgery) and are a superb mix of tried and tested tech with a classic shape. It’s great to see them on such a superb offer:

General:

Letha Magic are a little novel in their design for today’s market, having a bulbous front end, its a rounded section close to the point, tapering up to the maximum diameter and then down again over around the lowest section. The phrase scalloped barrel is better applied to the other weights and shapes in the range, these are more of a bulbous or even teardrop design.

The standard ring cut grip is very even throughout the barrel until the stem blank section which is short. The grooves are cut into the barrel to leave thinner sections upstanding and deeper grooves being wider. Its not an aggressive grip but it is effective and reliable regardless of your grip style. Open The Box:

As is now standard Red Dragon these came in RD packaging with a slide-out foam tray. Three 85% tungsten darts are accompanied by a set of aluminum medium-length stems and a Red Dragon branded set of black and red flights. I cannot help wondering if that is in tribute the Dennis Priestley whose darts these remind me of to some extent.

The darts come fitted with standard-length black points that seem to hold the board but to improve the experience even more I used a collared/tridented point to eliminate almost all deflections.

Testers View:

I was throwing less firmly due to my arm weakness and started with the setup out of the packet. After a short acclimatization period, the darts threw easily and the front weight really helped me put together a simple ‘up and down’ technique.

To get a less biased view I asked a couple of the testers who assist us to have a session or two with the Lethal Magic.

The Darts Collector seems to have had a similar experience to me and said:

” it’s clear that using the bulb as the push point there is almost zero directional deviation, and even though the barrels are front-loaded if thrown firmly there is no abrupt drop away as they reach the board. It doesn’t take long before they are regularly on target and I’m hitting what I’m throwing at.”

Our elite tester used the Lethal magic through all the practice drills that we often start with and was happy to carry on through the following match-style session. After that he said:

” You best take these off me …..They feel great and aren’t too far away from my original grip….”

I really enjoyed these darts and given how easy they are to tune to my throw, I would classify them as all-rounders.

It is easy to overlook the non-player darts, or those that don’t have 14 different colours and milling areas on them, but with an offer such as this bringing them down to close to £20 you should be willing to try out something different. Lethal Magic are a high-quality dart that might suit varied throw types but especially those who like a simple precision technique without too much force on the dart.

All things considered and for this price we have to give these a 9 out of 10 mark
