Cups Progress in Four Oaks and District League

The Four Oaks and District League have been engaged in round two of their Brian Goodman and Ken Rust Cups and in the Brian Goodman Cup division one leader’s Nomad Flights suffered a 6-3 defeat playing away against Bishop Vesey who are placed fourth in the top division. In the battle of the Lions, Red Lion and Golden Hind Lions are respectively placed sixth and seventh in division one both on fourteen points so a close game was envisaged and that is how it finished with Golden Hind Lions just getting the 5-4 edge on Red Lion. Funky Bear are just two places off the foot of the division two table and their opponents Walmley CSC Flights two places off the foot of division one, the 5-4 result going in favour of the division two side. Another close 5-4 verdict went to second in division one Old Horns Lions who accounted for third in the same division Old Oscott Arrows.  

The Ken Rust Cup matched the two divisions bottom teams with the division one side Charley’s Flights taking out their division two opponents Sutton Sports and Social with an emphatic 8-1 scoreline. In the all-division, two encounters between Deer’s Leap and Oscott Social Club, second, in the division Oscott Social Club got a 5-4 result. John Frost was in superb form for Heartlands recording a maximum and an eight darts leg in his team’s 6-3 win against Pint Pot Flights,  6-3 was also the margin by which St Thomas Arrows defeated Sutton Sharks.

The Kings Norton League have got their new season underway and the early pacesetters are Northfield and Bourneville who in turn both won 7-0 against Longbridge and Kings Norton Flights. The top two sides are closely followed by both Grant Arms and Bournebrook who were both 6-1 winners in their respective games against Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club and Cock Inn. Reigning champions Copper Fox had a 5-2 win away to Rubery Social Club and are currently placed sixth but on the same two points as all of the five teams above them.

K.Manger (Rubery Social Club), A.Busby (Northfield) and M.James (Bourneville) all got the season off to a fine start by hitting a maximum.

Erdington Nomads consolidated their number one spot in the Camp Hill League in style as they handed their hosts Sheldon Marlborough Flights a 7-0 whitewash to keep them two points to the good on both Tyseley WMC and Clumsy Swan, Tyseley WMC having a bye this week and Clumsy Swan, who have played one game more than the two teams above them won 4-3 at fifth in the table Cotterills Lane EBAHA Club. In addition to the leader’s winning  7-0, fourth in the league Tyseley Bears also won by the same margin away to bottom-of-the-table Sedgemere Devils whose Paul Evans chalked up a maximum.

A 7-2 win away to fourth in the table Hill and Cakemore keeps Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ top of the Netherton Thursday Night League with thirty-two points which gives them a lead of two over Bulls Head who with maximums from both G.Jackson and B.Neale won 9-0 at home against bottom of the league Netherton Sports and Social Club ‘B’. Netherton Sports and Social Club ‘A’ are third in the table, four points off the top after they won their home tie with Townsend Social Club 5-4.  

J.Colley (Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’) was another player to find the three treble twenties.

In the Hilltop Friendly Tuesday Night League Allen’s ‘A’ returned from the bottom of the league Albion with a 6-1 result to keep them top of the table with fourteen points. The battle is on for the number two spot with no fewer than three teams all on twelve points. Allen’s ‘B’ lost ground on their ‘A’ side going down 4-3 at home to fourth-placed Cottage Spring but hold on to the number two position on average from third and fourth-placed Horseley Tavern and Cottage Spring. Horseley Tavern won 4-3 at home against Vine ‘A’, they like Allen’s ‘A’ have played nine games whereas Cottage Spring and Allen’s ‘B’ have played eight.

The Sedgley and Gornal Tuesday Night League staged the finals of their John Walters Cup and John Walters Trophy. In the cup league leader Gornal Labour Club won 5-4 against Five Ways who are currently fourth in the league. The trophy title went to Red Cow, once again a close 5-4 result with Pensnett Liberal Club the runners-up.

Dog and Partridge continue to lead the field in the West Midlands Men’s Super League adding a 5-0 home victory over fifth-placed Staffordshire Knot to their account to take their points tally to fifty-seven and giving them a lead of five over second-placed Kings Head ‘A’ who won their away game over their local rivals Kings Head ‘B’ 4-1. A further two points behind in third place with fifty points is Gilbert’s ‘B’ who had a home game against Bridgtown Social which they won 4-1.

Three Crowns are now the only team in the league without a win so far but they have only played seven games compared to the majority of teams having played nine and in their latest fixture they went down 4-1 at home against middle-of-the-table Gilbert’s ‘A’.

There were only a handful of fixtures played in the Black Country Thursday Night Singles League this week with current leader Rich Bowen adding a 7-1 win over Grace Angell to his account to give him a total of 137 points from seventeen games. With Shane Price and Ben Hollowood not playing Nick Fullweel moved up two places in the table to second with an 8-0 win against Alex Mason to leave him thirteen points short of Bowen but with two games in hand. Shane Price drops down from second to third and with 118 points he has six fewer than Fullwell and has played one game more than him.

The Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League has got its new season underway and after the first round of fixtures Wednesfield Legion head the singles league on average after their 6-1 win over Corpus Christi ‘B’. Close on the heels of Wednesfield are ECC ‘A’ and Woodfield who in turn both won 5-2 against Railway and Corpus Christi ‘A’. Dog and Partridge, Gilbert’s Bar ‘A’ and Three Crowns all won 4-3 against respective opponents Ring of Bells, Gilbert’s Bar ‘B’ and ECC ‘B’.

A 3-0 win for Three Crowns over ECC ‘B’ in the doubles league puts them top of the table, Corpus Christi ‘A’, ECC ‘A’, Gilbert’s Bar ‘A’, Ring of Bells and Wednesfield Legion were all 2-1 winners in turn at the expense of Woodfield, Ralway, Gilbert’s Bar ‘B’, Dog and Partridge and Corpus Christi ‘B’.
