Tribute and Memorial Darts Competitions Restored

The annual Tribute and Memorial Dart Competitions, previously known as the Brian Fox & Bob Anderson Snr memorial darts, was once again hosted, and sponsored by the Academy club, in aid of the Heart of darts charity after an absence of 2 years due to covid.

The idea of the day is to bring the darting family together, in memory of and to pay tribute to, those who are no longer with us. It is a great day of darts while raising money for charity, to help those less fortunate than ourselves.

John Bartlett, the event organiser, thanked everyone for coming and asked for everyone in the club to take a few minutes to pay their respects to our loved ones, family and friends.  As a mark of respect and remembrance, everyone joined a round of applause whilst John Bartlett read out the names on the roll of honour.

This year, in addition to those already on the roll of honour, John paid tribute to those we lost during the last two years, including Geoff Riddy, Steve Bruce, Graham Skipp Jnr, Venetia Merritt, Colin Pritchard and last but by no means least our great friend Keith Oliver. Everyone raised a glass to them and all of those who are no longer with us.

The Tribute & Memorial Pairs:

This year’s winners were Mark Rowland and Kevin Windebank who beat Rob Bruce and Richard Oxlade 3-0 in the final.

The losing semi-finalists were Arron Bruce and Jade Oliver losing out to Rob Bruce and Richard Oxlade 3-0 and in the other close fought semi-final Mark Thorne and Anthony (Pants) Dean just losing out to the winners Mark Rowland and Kevin Windebank 3-2.

The Tribute & Memorial Singles:

This year’s title was won by Anthony (Pants) Dean who beat Jason Waite 3-1 in the final.

The losing semi-finalists were Rob Bruce losing 3-0 to Jason Waite and Dave Gregory losing to Anthony (Pants) Dean 3-0.

John and Tracey Bartlett, the organisers, were really pleased with what was a very successful, enjoyable & emotional day.  A big thank you to everyone who attended and helped us raise a total of £850.00 for the Heart of Darts Charity.  All the money collected was raised from sponsorship, entry fees, prize money, raffle and sale of Heart of Dart pens, key ring torches and pins.

Also, all this year’s winners and runners-up donated their winnings to The Heart of Darts Charity and we also raised £150 from the auction of a signed Michael Van Gerwen shirt which was kindly donated by Les Miller and included signatures of not only MVG but other legends of darts.

A big thank you to the Academy snooker centre for their continued support of this event and our thanks also go to all the staff involved in helping making this event a success once again. We look forward to next year’s event and hope to see you all there.
